South Sudan Crisis Update Monday, July 11

Thank you all for praying for our team in South Sudan. In our update yesterday we reported that James Nyika was in communication with his sister as she relayed to him that the government helicopter gunship was shooting people in the streets in front of her home. Last night we did not know if she survived. This morning James was able to speak to his sister briefly on the phone. She and hundreds from her neighborhood are hiding in the forest near the capital city. They have actually been holding prayer meetings under the trees with others from her community. Government soldiers are presently patrolling the capital city of Juba with tanks and armored vehicles. Please continue to pray that everybody in the capital will be able to return home soon or safely evacuate.

Our fears of the country slipping into a state of anarchy are becoming more of a reality day by day. Truckloads of food are being hijacked along the main corridors. As a result, our kids will be unable to receive any food. Due to these circumstances it is necessary to move our children out of South Sudan and into the Kakuma Refugee camp in the neighboring country of Kenya.

This morning, with heavy hearts, we said goodbye to James Nyika in Northern Kenya while he entered the war zone to South Sudan in order to determine whether he should evacuate the kids immediately or if he could postpone it for a short while. Please pray that God will give him wisdom in determining when to temporarily close down our elementary school in South Sudan, when to move the children, and then when to reopen the school in Kakuma Refugee camp, in the neighbouring country of Kenya.

Our American team was able to find a flight back to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. We are now safe in the home of Pastor Dave Zavala of Calvary Chapel Nairobi. Rob will spend the next few days coordinating with James as much as possible and the churches in America to best manage this crisis. The ladies will be joining the members of Calvary Nairobi in street evangelism, VBS, and an orphanage outreach.

We would appreciate prayer for our team as some members have been battling stomach sickness.

South Sudan Crisis Update Sunday, July 10

South Sudan Crisis Update Sunday, July 10

Our team is safe in Kenya near the Sudan border. We have attempted three times over the last few days to get into South Sudan to be able to minister but have had issues with the small plane and excessive mud and the vehicle breaking which has caused us to have to return back to the Kenyan border. However our team sees God’s hand in the timing of all of this since due to the delay we have been able to connect with the governor of South Sudan who knows our ministry and hopefully will be a help to us if we need to evacuate the Taus children from the school. The fighting has escalated in the capital city of Juba. Our African director, James Nyika, was on the phone this morning with his sister who is in the capital city when an army helicopter began shooting people in the streets. The phone connection was lost and he does not know if she and her children are safe. Please pray that South Sudan’s capital city, Juba, stabilizes quickly and the civil unrest stops. If Juba falls South Sudan will go into anarchy.

Our team is waiting to be flown out of Kenya back to Nairobi. However, the MAF pilots are right now evacuating their staff out of Juba so our team is safe and will wait until we can be flown out.

We may be needing to evacuate the children in our sponsorship program from the school and try to get them across the border to the Kakuma refugee settlement in Kenya. James is putting this plan in motion in case things continue to escalate in Juba and the fighting increases which would make getting food to our children impossible and relocating them the only option. Thank you for your continued prayers for peace in South Sudan and for the safety of all those on the ground.

God’s Faithfulness in 2013

God’s Faithfulness in 2013

“The people who sat in darkness saw a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned.” Matthew 4:16

The Lord has used you this past year, through your co-laboring with Ends of the Earth Ministries to make an eternal difference in the lives of countless people in South Sudan. God has truly turned many from darkness to light. Let me share with you what your partnership has accomplished in 2013.

Tauso Tribe is no Longer Unreached!

10b
We are elated to report that the Tauso Tribe is no longer unreached. Due to the tireless efforts of our national missionaries and their care in Jesus name the Tauso community has enough professing believers to be removed from the unreached list. We had the privilege to baptize many young adults in early 2013. After going through the word with our missionaries they asked if they could show a public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ.

Deliverance from Child Marriage

10c

Thirteen year old Natuk heard her father chain shut the stick door of their hut. In desperation, she knelt on the mud floor and cried out to God. “Please Jesus, help me! I don’t want to be forced to marry this old man.” Natuk is a member of the Tauso tribe which we began working in three years ago. She gave her life to Jesus through our child sponsorship program which has provided for her housing, food, spiritual discipleship and education. On her school holiday she left our boarding school and returned home to visit relatives. The day she was supposed to return to school her father blocked her path and announced to her that he had arranged for her to marry a man in his 60’s. She begged him to let her finish school and to not have to marry this old man. She was pulled from the truck and locked in a hut. For two days she cried out to the Lord in prayer. When Pastor James Nyika arrived he pleaded with her father to release her from the marital contract. He replied, “I respect you for the way you have cared for our children. If you want her to finish school, out of my respect for you, I will release her from this arrangement.” Natuk returned to the boarding school and testified to all of the children of the power of God to hear and answer prayer.

Clinic Expanded by 400%

10d
In 2013 we expanded our medical clinic by 400%. The medical clinic is targeting a second unreached people group called the Taposa. This past year over 15,000 people were treated in our medical clinic, many of whom would have died without the medications and simple care that was given. Our medical clinic shows the people that we genuinely love and care for them. Their physical and spiritual needs are met and ministered to. This year we are in the process of finishing the walls for the new child’s ward and birthing center. This will save the lives of thousands of mothers and children. Earlier this year I met a Taposa mother that had carried her sick baby through the desert for three days to receive medical care from our clinic. Our medical missionaries administered the malaria medication (costing .50 cents) which saved the child’s life.

Malnourishment

10e
This year our region of South Sudan has been plagued with malnourishment. Our medical clinic has received the highest reviews from the United Nation and as a result the UN provides ample free supplies of food for malnourished children and related medications.

Vision for 2014 Reaching the Jie Tribe

10a
God has been faithful to reach the Tauso tribe. Our missionaries are currently planting a church among the Taposa. In 2014, we are preparing to send out an African missionary family to a completely new unreached tribal area home to 40,000 Jie people. Please pray for open doors to bring the love of Jesus Christ to a third unreached people group.

Making an Eternal Difference

10f
As the director of EEM, I feel strongly about our 100% promise… that 100% of your donation will go to the area it is designated for. We do not take out a percentage for office expenses, travel or ministry needs. That is why our family expresses thanks to those who support us financially so that I can lead our national missionaries and direct this ministry. We are in need of raising additional financial sponsors for our family. If you feel lead to partner with our family in this ministry, it would be greatly appreciated.

Left for Dead on the Road

Left for Dead on the Road

In my last update entitled, “Our Brother Is Alive,” I shared with you the inspiring story of how one of our native missionaries saved the life of a dying, unreached, Sudanese man and changed his tribe forever. I am delighted to tell you that Zachariah’s journey with Jesus is not over; in fact it has just begun.

Overwhelmed with joy, Zechariah sat and remembered that it was only a few months ago he had almost died of an illness. His new Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sent a missionary to his tribe to rescue him. He fondly remembered this missionary’s undeniable love. He thought about how love led him to open his heart and ears to listen to the missionary’s simple story of Jesus’ sacrificial death for his sins to provide him complete forgiveness and the assurance of eternal life. It did not take long before Zechariah’s pleasure was interrupted by the countless faces that flashed through his mind of family and friends that had no knowledge of Jesus. He desperately wanted to share this life-changing message with every one he knew. So with child like faith he began to pray, “Lord, my tribe has no written language and I will probably never learn to read or write. I want to learn about you but I don’t understand that book that the missionaries read. I want to tell everyone about your love, but I do not know how to. Help me Jesus!”

4b

Not long after this, Zechariah asked James Nyika, an Ends Of The Earth native missionary, if it were even possible for him to learn more about Jesus and the Bible. Zechariah explained to James that God had given him a passion to evangelize. James responded, “Yes brother, God has answered your prayers! Next month we will teach you to memorize key Bible stories as you hear them being read aloud. You will also learn how to share these stories with your people in an oral Bible study.” Once again, Zechariah was in awe of God’s intimacy and miraculous answer to his prayers.

I had the privilege of watching God reveal Himself to Zechariah during this training. We broke up the class into small groups and assigned each group a Bible story that they were to memorize and retell in their own language and cultural reenactment. James and Zechariah’s group were given the story of the Good Samaritan. As James read the story out loud, Zechariah sat and listened intently, as this was his first time ever hearing it. When James was finished, he asked if anyone in the group had experienced something like this. James noticed Zechariah timidly raising his hand. Unaware of what he was about to share, James asked him to come forward and tell his story. Zechariah stood up and looked directly at James and declared, “I was the man left for dead on the road, and James, you were the good Samaritan.”

Zechariah was chosen by his small group to reenact the story of the good Samaritan in front of the entire class. Everyone sat in amazement, as we watched this illiterate man, that had just recently been introduced to the Bible, perfectly dramatize the story with deep passion. He captured the heart of the story better than anyone else, because he had personally experienced God’s loving touch in such a similar way.

Zechariah is presently a missionary-in-training under Ends of the Earth Ministries. He will be attending an oral Bible college with other illiterate tribal leaders to prepare them to reach their own people and the neighboring villages almost immediately. Please pray that God will use Zechariah to bring the message of eternal salvation to all the tribes in his area of Sudan. A handful of his fellow tribesmen have followed in his footsteps and have recently given their hearts to Jesus Christ.

Jesus said,
“Love one another: just as I have loved you… By this all people will know that you are my disciples.”
John 13:34-35

Get Involved And Make An Eternal Difference

On July 1 we opened a medical clinic in Zechariah’s region of South Sudan to show the love of Christ in an undeniable way. This clinic services five totally unreached tribes with an estimated population of 1 million people. Almost 50% of the children in this area die before their fifth birthday as a result of simple diseases that can be cured for less than one dollar. Please consider financially supporting the medical clinic.

We need to raise $2000 per month to supply the medicines and native missionary medical staff essential to show the tangible love of God that Zechariah experienced to these desperately lost and hurting people.

You can save a life by giving $0.50 per day.

By sponsoring for just $15 per month, you can come alongside those who are the hands and feet of Jesus and impact people that are hearing the Gospel for the first time.

  • Please pray for Zechariah as he is making steps of faith to bring the Gospel to his people. He will encounter tremendous opposition from those still steeped in demonic worship.
  • Please pray for those who are still waiting to hear that Jesus loves them. Pray their eyes will be opened, and that they will turn to the only God.

Isaiah 9:2 “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.”

Acts 13:47 For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.”
